Not really sure but the stupid hornet takes over everything. The nickname "Rhino" was originally what the F-4 Phantom was called........ - -SX- wrote:

Flying Eagles...a Naval replacement squadron that flys both the F/A-18E and F.

The F-14 took over the carrier protection secret service with great respect to the F-4 after its bravery shown during Vietnam. The Tomcat is a much better fighter all around than the Phantom and it was time to let those baby's sleep. The F-4 was used for almost 40 years mostly because there was no other superior fighter out at the time. Once the F-14 rolled into position the Rhino and the Cat shook paws/hoofs. From there on out the mighty F-14 provided a whole new meaning to Naval warefare and aviation. The F-4 did infact carry a greater weapons platform mostly because it was designed to be a better ground attack aircraft, as for the F-14 wasnt. The F-14B and D were the real ground bunker busters with their trusty LANTIRN's and provided the best air support for the F/A-18's with its APG-71. @SpikeX- Might want to rethink that phase "phantoms suck". They kept the carriers safe for a great amount of time. Atleast they did a much better job than the bugs out there will ever be able to do.
