- BT Openreach revealed details of a fibre to the home service offering 110Mbps peak rates and launching in March 2011.
The service will offer 110Mbps downstream with 20Mbps bandwidth being prioritised while the service would also offer 20Mbps upstream bandwidth. The symbolic increment above the still yet to be delivered 100Mbps is being seen as a marketing move as the company positions itself against the 100Mbps cable modem service offered by Virgin Media.
The wholesale price of the service will be priced at around £260 per year if BT voice service is also provided. Consumer pricing will be higher when ISPs offer the BT service with their own Internet service offering. The service will have a connection charge of £75+VAT including engineer call out and termination equipment.
Virgin plan to launch their 100Mbps cable service before the end of the year and cover around half of the UK while BT wont fibre services until later in 2011 and on a much more limited range of fibre to the home ready exchanges. The Full Story Is Here | |
